Olcay Sert works as an Assistant Professor of Applied Linguistics and English Language Teaching at Hacettepe University, Ankara, Turkey. He is the director of HUMAN (Hacettepe University Micro-Analysis Network) Research Centre and is an associate-editor of Classroom Discourse, a peer-reviewed academic journal published by Routledge.

His articles have appeared in a number of academic journals including Journal of Pragmatics, TESOL Quarterly and Language and Education. He has acted as a reviewer for journals like Applied Linguistics (OUP), Language Teaching (CUP), and the International Journal of Applied Linguistics (Wiley-Blackwell).

Currently, he is teaching undergraduate and postgraduate courses at Hacettepe University, Department of Foreign Language Education, where he is training teachers of English as a Foreign Language. He is supervising MA and PhD students who are interested in the use of Conversation Analysis in investigating L2 talk-in-interaction. He previously worked in Newcastle University (UK), The University of Sunderland (UK), and the University of Luxembourg.

He is currently working on multiple datasets of video and audio recorded L2 interactions and is trying to create a database that can contribute to our understanding of L2 interaction and help practitioners, academics, and teacher educators develop their knowledge and skills.
